3/11/13

Today we watched Isabelle, Joielly, Maricel, John, Ryan, Michael, Catherine, and Dan present. I found their presentations very interesting, and especially got a lot of insight on Ms. I's feedback towards their presentations. I liked how Ryan and John tried a video game, that was pretty cool. I'm nervous to present on Wednesday, but I hope we can get our points across thoroughly and clearly!

1) I'm running out of questions again ...
2) What did you think of their presentations, Ms. I?
3) Any tips or suggestions on how to present? :D

3/07/13

So today, we finalized our presentation date to be on Wednesday, March 13th, 2013, the last day of school before spring break!!!! We made a little schedule to decide which topics we should talk about first on our prezi. Topics such as, "What is 'Dystopia'"? "How is our novel dystopian?" "What is it's appeal?", etc!

1) Where did the word "dystopia" originate from?
2) Are there novels with targeted audiences that we'd normally never think of?
3) What do dystopian novels try to prove?

03/05/13

Okay, so I'm not going to lie. This was an unproductive class for us, because we kept getting off topic and fooling around. *Sigh. We decided to look at the percentage thing today, and discuss how and what we can do to achieve a certain percentage within a certain category.

1) Were the percentages we decided on similar with the other block?
2) What in a presentation sticks out most for you, Ms. I?
3) Do you do this dystopian project every year with the eleventh graders?

3/01/13

Feeling like a glum chum today, but none the less, I must push through! Okay, that was kind of lame. Oh well, I can say things like this on here right? ANYWAYS, okay soooo basically, okay not basically, but this class the boys told us about their novel and we also told them about ours (Jess and I). We discussed the similarities and how both are dystopian novels.

1) I'm running out of questions ...
2) Have you read either "The Running Man" or "1Q84" Ms. I?
3) If so, how did you feel about them?

02/27/13

Okay, so last class I finished the book. I have to say that I really liked it! Now we're deciding on how to present or project, and with much thought, we have decided to do a prezi! This class Jessica and I have discussed the different devices we have noticed throughout the book and how things in the book relate to what dystopia is and how the book is dystopian. I'm not really sure where the boys are at right now, I'll ask them. 'Til we meet again blogger! xoxoxo, Laur

1) Do all dystopian novels always have one controlling group such as "government" or in this case the "Sakigake"?
2) Can dystopian novels be changed into a not so dystopic environment/situation?
3) How do you come up with "food for thought"?

2/25/13

Tamaru, Aomame's bodyguard, sneeks into Ushikawa's room and interrogates him on what he knows about Tengo and Aomame. Tamaru finds out that Ushikawa knows a lot and it is a threat to the saftey of Aomame, the Dowager, as well as himself. He kills Ushikawa. Aomame and Tengo finally meet face to face and realize that they were once childhood classmates at school. Aomame and Tengo fall in love despite the fact that they have not seen nor thought about each other for a long time. Twenty years later, they meet again and are still being followed by Ushikawa and Sakigake. They escape the world of "1Q84" and into a place where they assume is their world from which they originally came from, but as Aomame saw in the beginning, there are small things that seem out of place. THE ENDDDDDDDDDDDDD woo, finally done!! That took a while, this book is huge. Laugh out loud. Next class, we'll start deciding on how to present and put everything together.

1) Do all dystopian novels leave you with a cliffhanger?
2) Can dystopian novels conclude with an anti-climax?
3) What's your preference of a "good ending" Ms. I?

02/21/13

Just doing some more reading on the novel.

Finding out about the abusive history of the Sakigake through Tsubasa, it fuels the Dowager to look more into the Sakigake group. She finds out that abuse is common throughout their daily lives. She then asks Aomame to kill the leader who is the abuser. Aomame meets the leader, whome she finds out to be the father of Fuka-Eri and has telekinesis. Aomame kills him and goes into hiding. The parallel worlds of  Aomame and Tengo start to intertwine. Ushikawa, a private investigator, is hired to follow Tengo to find out about "Air Chrysalis." Ushikawa rents a room in the same apartment building as Tengo. He sets up cameras and finds out that Fuka-Eri has been hiding in Tengo's room. Fuka-Eri leaves Tengo a note, and takes off.

So the book is getting pretty interesting, and I'm not quite sure what to think about it quite just yet. For sure, I am certain it is dystopian because it follows the flow chart of whether a book is dystopian or not.

1) Are all dystopian books as fast paced as this one?
2) Are there always a lot of characters in dystopian novels?
3) Do reading dystopian novels involve a deeper level of thinking as to other genre of books?
